[fb_button] Turning Point for Women and Families is proud to announce that our founding Executive Director, Robina Niaz, was recognized by Bank of America Charitable Foundation on Tuesday as a “Local Hero.” At the awards ceremony November 16 at the New York Public Library, the foundation awarded Ms. Niaz with a $5000 grant that she could direct to the nonprofit of her choice in recognition of her significant contribution to the health of her neighborhood through volunteer service and civic engagement. Other Local Heroes recognized are Minerva Chin, of Manhattan, who is directing her grant to A Place for Kids; Lester Solnin of Queens and Norman “Nomi” Khan, of the Bronx, both supporting East Harlem Tutorial Program; and Ruth Kopf, of Staten Island, who will direct her grant to Meals on Wheels of Staten Island. To read more about the award, and Robina’s work in the community, be sure to check out the latest features in The Queens Chronicle, Metro Internaltional, and Your Nabe.
